Don’t worry about the why, trust the Who

Over the past few weeks, my life has seemed to be over run with a lot of craziness. Between sick kids, a son with a fractured foot, the muffler falling off my car and being sick myself, I really started to feel overwhelmed.  As a single-mom, being overwhelmed is nothing new, but there are times when you really start to question how you are going to get through.  When those times come, it is no surprise that you begin to ask why.  Why is this happening, why do I have to do all this by myself, why, why, why?  I was at that point, so when my kids finally got to school and I had a few minutes to myself, I sat down on the floor and cried.  I sat there and just poured my heart out to God telling him just how I felt. When my tirade had finished, as I sat there thinking about this, I felt like God was asking me why?…why was I worried about all of this, did I remember who He was?  He had everything under control, all I needed to do was trust him! The phrase came into my mind, don’t worry about the why, trust the Who.

The truth is we don’t need to worry about why things are happening when we remember Who is in control of everything that happens! We need to remember Who God is!

The Psalms are a great place to go and be reminded of the goodness and faithfulness of God and Who HE is..

Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths  for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil;   my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 46:1-2  “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,”

Psalm 48:14 “For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.”

Psalm 54:4  “Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.”

Psalm 62:7-8  “My salvation and my honor depend on God ; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”

Psalm 68:19 “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens”

Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Psalms 84:11-12 “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.”

Of Course the whole Bible is full of promises and reminders, it is there we should turn when we begin to feel overwhelmed and worrying causes us to temporarily forget Who God is.

So when you get to the point where you are worrying about why, remember the Who. The One who is in control, the One who is sovereign, the One who loves you with a never-ending love.  Remember the Who and trust Him.
